About Inclusion

When we considered the five potential themes for our web resource, we were all drawn towards inclusion. We feel that inclusion is and should be an important topic for all teachers, in order to provide the best quality education possible to each child you teach.

The National Curriculum statement on inclusion sets out three key principles for inclusive education: setting suitable learning challenges, responding to pupils’ diverse learning needs and overcoming potential barriers to learning and assessment for individuals and groups of pupils. We have focused on children with Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD), Children learning English as an Additional Language (EAL) and children with Learning Difficulties, with a key focus on dyslexia.

What we hope to show is not only how to include these children into mainstream education, with useful resources and approaches for your classroom, but also why these children should be included into mainstream education with some discussion of the key issues surrounding each category.
